Save Money by Shopping More?

While it may sound counter-productive, shopping more frequently can actually save money in the long-run. One of my biggest pet peeves about many frugal living websites and books is the suggestion that bulk shopping (i.e. buying all of your supplies in just one monthly shopping trip) is the best way to reduce spending. In reality, all this strategy does is cause you to miss out on great sales, discounts and coupon specials that happen throughout the rest of the month.

Of course, shopping frequently can be a dangerous option if you have a hard time saying no to impulse buys. How can you resist temptation and stay on track? The key is to plan your shopping trip carefully. Scope out the store circulars for sales and coupons, then create a list of the exact items you plan to buy. Once you get to the store, focus on finding the things on your list. If, however, you run across a smokin’ deal during your trip to the store, feel free to stock up. These great finds are one of the best ways to shave big bucks off of your regular spending expenses.
